At Shelly Beach Hospital, excellence is not something we chase at the finish line. It is built into every step of the healing journey. That journey is supported by a purpose-built facility designed with people in mind. From welcoming entrances and wide passageways to private patient rooms and larger-than-average theatres, every detail reflects our commitment to comfort, dignity and care. Coupled with compassion, empathy and clinical excellence, this is Shelly Beach Hospital.

The hospital began as a dream shared by a group of individuals deeply passionate about healthcare and the wellbeing of their community. That dream took its first concrete step in 2008 with the establishment of the Shelly Beach Day Hospital site. On 1 August 2010, the Day Hospital officially opened, offering day-surgical care and laying the foundation for something much bigger.

Just ten months later, on 1 June 2011, Shelly Beach Sub-Acute Hospital opened its doors, expanding our ability to care for patients requiring longer recovery and rehabilitation.

As services grew and community needs evolved, the Board of Directors recognised a greater opportunity: the development of a comprehensive healthcare facility offering a broad range of services under one roof.

An application was submitted to the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health to develop an acute hospital. Approval was granted on 1 July 2014 and detailed planning followed. Construction commenced in August 2015, with Aveng Grinaker-LTA appointed as the main contractor.

As the structure rose from concrete and steel, so too did the excitement within the community. That enthusiasm remains a reminder of the responsibility we carry. Today, Shelly Beach Hospital is a modern private healthcare facility providing medical and surgical services to patients and families across the South Coast and surrounding communities.
